Nothing could be easier than creating cheap pirate women
costumes. You probably
already have everything you need in your closet. If not,
a quick trip to almost any department store and you have it made.
First of all, a bandanna is a must, to tie around your head like a skull cap.
They make great skull and crossbones ones, or ones with bone patterns for dogs
that would do equally well for a bloodthirsty pirate. Black is always good, but
red or any bright color is fine, too, since pirates are not that much different
from gypsies.
If you have long hair, let it fly out from under the bandanna. If not, look for
a fake pigtail or even a wig - thrift shops often have them in straggly
condition that will be fine for this purpose. Costume wigs can also work and are
usually inexpensive.
Great big hoop earrings are mandatory, and you can add a black eye patch if you
like, or even a fake scar. A peasant blouse or a man's shirt tied beneath the
bosom can have a rip or bloodstain for detail. Of course, the amount of skin you
leave exposed depends on whether the costume or the woman is cheap, and the age
of your pirate, but a swashbuckling look is important, as well as a bit of wear
and tear.
For pants, use black Capri or snug, cut-off black sweats, and for shoes, bare
feet or rope sandals with your painted toenails on display. Add a cutlass or a
wicked looking knife and maybe a pistol thrust under a sash, and the costume is
complete. A parrot or monkey is optional.
Refinements like tattoos or blackened teeth will depend on your personal image
of the perfect pirate. Missing or rotting teeth are probably authentic but not
necessarily attractive. However, for a gruesome look, they are effective. Of
course, gold teeth are authentic, too. Strut rather than walk, say "Ahoy, matey!",
and use "Belay" instead of stop. Drink rum if you indulge that evening.
Cheap pirate women costumes are trendy, attractive, eye catching, and involve
just enough effort so your friends will know you care.
