The religious costumes for kids are a great idea because many
churches have their
own party on Halloween night to keep their children in a
known safe environment. These church parties are typically open to the
neighborhood children and friends of any of the students from the church. The
church group will offer similar games and activities that the children would
find elsewhere at this time of year. The difference being this is in a
controlled environment and the parents know who is dealing with their children
and where the candy comes from.
Religious costumes for kids can be a variety of characters from the Bible.
Typical Old Testament favorites for boys could be King David, who fought the
giant, or Samson who fought the lion, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego lived
through the fire, Caleb and Joshua were spies with a good report. The stories go
on, with many heroes in each story. Old Testament favorites for girls might be
Eve, Queen Esther, Queen of Sheba, Queen Vashti, Miriam, Sarah, the judge
Deborah, Abigail or Hannah, or countless other women that were well known in the
Old Testament.
The New Testament offers a different breed of people for the children to
emulate. For boys there is of course Jesus. He is the most famous of all
Biblical people. Any of the twelve disciples would be great, or even Joseph, the
husband of Mary. For girls there are more Old Testament women than New Testament
women that are well known. The most famous woman of course is the mother of
Jesus, Mary; other women from the New Testament are Anna, Elizabeth, Dorcas,
Eunice, Lois and Lydia.
The costumes for many of these people would be a type of toga and sandals. The
togas were various colors and royalty might wear a robe over theirs. King David
or King Saul would be favorites for the boys because they were king and wore a
crown. But the one costume for the boys that might stand out would be King David
the warrior. He would have a shield, a sword, and a helmet.
Miriam danced before the Lord and used a tambourine, so that might be a part of
her costume. Queen Esther, Queen Vashti or Queen of Sheba might be favorites for
the girls as part of their costume would be a crown. Mary might have a baby doll
as part of her costume. Each person in the Bible did something specific that
they are known for, so to dress up like them in a costume it helps to know their
history in order to know what would add to the effect of the costume.
Religious costumes for kids are an asset to any costume store as it gives
another avenue to choose, as opposed to the typical monsters and goblins
scenario that Halloween has come to be known for. Not everyone wants to dress
their child up as a monster. Some prefer more mild costumes, and not every
little girl can be a fairy princess. The more variety of costumes available for
the customer to choose from, the better chance they will find something they are
happy with.
